Alas, we have arrived at the final two episodes of the season and it is time to start wrapping things up. This episode did a decent job and starting to move the pieces to the conclusion and it is probably one of the few episodes this season that are at a level with the previous seasons. It still had some of the same errors of the previous episodes (the ridiculous Andy-Forest Fairy thing anyone?) but the episode had the good grace to quickly move past those and get to the two big storylines: The standoff at Marnies and Sam/Alcide going after the Packmaster. The Marnie storyline is not done yet with the Lafayette having a close encounter with Marnie's ghost at the end of the episode but the other storyline seems to be in a good place to end. Hopefully next week's finale concentrates on resolution rather than adding new storylines.
- The stand-off at Marnie's was anti-climatic and annoying in a number of ways. Instead of having a bad ass scene with automatic weapons fire and RPG rockets firing, we get alot of angsty and bullshit tripe with the Sookie hostage stand-off and the patently ridiculous Eric/Bill suicide pact to save her. Really? Bill you are the king and Eric, you are a Viking Warrior. Given the survival of your race, you are going to off yourselves to save one dumb ass blonde that did not have the common sense to stay put when you explicitly told her to stay away...AGAIN!?!?!? Pam had it right when she fired off the RPG and look what happened to her.
- That being said, I was glad to see there was no cop out when Bill and Eric finally broke in to Marnies. No trying to spare her or talk her down. Eric took care of the flunky and Bill drew down and empty a clip of 9mm into her head and chest. That is how it should have ended. The bad news is that I am not seeing Sookie forget how ruthless Bill and Eric were when push came to shove.
- Good to go on Alicde and Sam's part. Kudos for Alcide becoming the packmaster and kicking Debbie to the curb like he should of given what she did...but he does bare some responsibility for what occured and I think the writers will do well to add that dimension to his character. Kudos on Sam for whupping up on the former packmaster and saving the day with Luna's kid. I personally don't think she is going to hold it against him for the death of her child's father.
Anyrate, lets see what occurs next week with the series finale. It is no secret that I am profoundly disappointed with this season but hopefully they pull it out with a kick-ass finale that sets up the story for next year.
